How terribly sad are the proud
who refuse to relent
putting on airs for acceptance
their haughty guile intent

pressures to keep up with the world
to find favor of men
is what Jesus hated as sin
and pride He can’t defend

man’s will to do as he pleases
which brings heartache and strife
man’s energies are so futile
to live a happy life
____
if pride is the ultimate sin
it is with good reason
because man deems he’s in control
thinking like a heathen
____
like a father’s wayward children
his love will never cease
hoping someday they will return
to share his love and peace
____
so as it is with our Father
a God so full of love
all He asks is our obedience
to share what He’s made of
____
humility is the answer
humble yourself inside
be as a little child of faith
cast off the yoke of pride
